Dr Ali-Reza Bhojani participates in interfaith event ‘Peace and Peacemaking in the Christian and Muslim Traditions’

On 24th February, St Peters Church of Birmingham held an interfaith event entitled ‘Peace and Peacemaking in the Christian and Muslim Traditions’. It was an evening of stimulating conversation, friendship and exploration focused on the practice of peacemaking in the Muslim and Christian traditions.

The evening entailed scriptural reasoning covering spiritual morality in light of the Quran 4:135, and non-violent activism in light of the Bible, Matthew 5:38-46 by Dr Ali-Reza Bhojani of AMI, and Father Martin Newell from the Passionist Order.

Father Martin Newell from Walthamstow, London is a priest and protester. Member of the Passionist Order, he has worked with homeless refugees at the London Catholic Worker, and has recently moved to start a new project in Birmingham.

Dr Ali-Reza Bhojani is a post-doctoral fellow at the Al-Mahdi Institute. He holds a PhD from Durham University in Islamic Legal theory. His doctoral work forms the basis of his published book ‘Moral Rationalism and Sharīʿa: Independent rationality in modern Shī’ī uṣūl al-fiqh’. (Routledge, 2015). He was recently awarded ‘Religious Advocate of the Year’ at the British Muslim Awards 2016.
